This week we will focus on Ladybugs and Roses. Kids will make and use observation journals, "hunt," observe and care for ladybugs, plant seeds in environmentally-friendly planters, then move the sprouts to wooden planters they have built and decorated. We'll also make crafts and hear stories that relate. At Saturday Special, kids will have a chance to present some of their findings.

This week is Ants and Herbs. We'll make our own ant farms and plant windowsill herb gardens, learning about the nutritional and medicinal value of the herbs we plant. Crafts and stories are, of course part of this fun week! Kids may share what they've learned at Saturday Special.

This week is Mini-Plays and Storytelling. We'll split into small groups and work all week on writing, rehearsing and performing our own mini-plays and classic story poems. Of course we'll run and play too--learning a bit about things like movement and improv along the way. We'll perform for parents on Friday and again for EVERYONE at Saturday Special!

This week drama becomes comedy. We focus on improvisation and reacting to scene partners and the audience. We'll practice all sorts of fun improv games and techniques, then take a deep breath and perform for parents on Friday and EVERYONE at Saturday Special!

Breath 'n Books
Session I

Here we help kids connect to nature, themselves and each other. Ecopsychologists talk about our alientation from teh natural world, and its sad consequences. This starts happening in childhood. So in Breath 'n Books we breathe deeply and practice being still (for a minute!) We explore nature and keep track of our discovereis in journals. We read quality children's books that have natural themes. A special field trip is part of this week, as is sharing our discoveries at Saturday Special.

Session II
August 11-15

Continuing our work from Breath and Books Session I, we'll read, explore and engage all five senses in the world around us. Kids will build a special project and a different field trip is on the schedule this week too. Of course, kids will have the chance to share their discoveries at saturday Special.
This is a CONTINUATION of the previous week, not a REPEAT!
It is NOT necessary to have taken Session I in order to take session II!

Art in Nature
Session I
August 4-8

This week we explore and experiment with fine art and poetry. Using different mediums, we'll practice creating pieces inspired by the nature around us. Among other things, we'll use charcoals to explore light and shadow, fingerpaint, create with yarn and recycled materials and make mandalas. Kids are encouraged to experiment and play with methods after receiving instruction. They'll have a portfolio to bring home at the end of the session, and will have the chance to show their work at Saturday Special.

Continuing from Art in Nature Session I, well carry on our exploration and experimentation. We'll also build planters this week that the kids will decorate, adding an original poem to the side or front. We'll add to our portfolios and share what we've made at Saturday Special.
